And We're Off...

to San Antonio! We just received the news that Eric has been accepted into the Physician's Assistant program (the class of 2011). We had already given up on him getting accepted this year because most selectees had heard by last Friday. We were already making plans to extend here for another year and planning a trip to Hawaii (to make us feel better;)), so it was a really big surprise. His work got him good. He was on his way home when a coworker called and said that he had to come back to help find a missing tool. He was really mad (not a good day for him). When he got there, everyone said that they had already found the tool, but had to wait while the commander came to visit. Eric kinda perked up at that point (commanders are the ones that tell you whether you made it or not), but his coworkers said that wasn't the reason he was coming in. The commander handed out stripes (promotions) to some of his coworkers and Eric by this point was not a happy camper. Then the commander called his name and awarded him a certificate with 2nd lietenant "butter bars" and told him he got accepted. Eric said he couldn't stop laughing. He then came home looking like he was still in the bummed out mood he left in. This is how the conversation went:
Eric: "When were we planning on taking that trip to Hawaii?"
Me: "Either this coming October or sometime in Feb/March."
Eric: "Oh, well I was thinking...instead of going then how about we go to San Antonio in August."
He then showed me the certificate and I screamed and jumped up and down. Keira got a little upset because she wanted to scream and jump up and down, but no one told her why. So, that's our happy news. I'm so proud of Eric...he really worked hard. Now we'll just sit back and relax...maybe we'll still take that trip to Hawaii.

I am glad you guys will be CLOSER. So maybe we can actually see you. I know that sounds funny since I am calling you all the time :). But San Antonio and Chicago are a lot closer than Chicago and Japan.
