Swimming Lessons Part II
So, I have to admit the whole reason that I felt we should put Keira into lessons was because I thought someone else could teach her better than me and if I didn't put her in lessons, then I'd be holding her back. I was wrong. I paid $50 to have that guilt completely lifted. The lessons were a joke...and she got the teacher that knows the least about swimming. Let me tell you a story to illustrate her incompetence. There ended up being 4 kids in Keira's class, one of them being a little girl that thought it was fun to drop off the side into the pool even though she couldn't swim even a little bit. She would do this at least 3-4 times wasting time because then the parents would talk to the teacher and their daughter forever (you know the kind of "stern" talk they gave her daughter...all baby voices and "sweetie you can't do that", ugh). Anyway, the teacher had one of the other little girls (the one that was close to Keira's level) out away from the platform practicing "big arms", when the crazy little girl jumped off the side. The teacher freaked out, dropped the girl (Kayla) she was "teaching", and rushed over to the side to save the other little girl. Meanwhile, Kayla is trying to get her head above water, but not doing so great. The teacher remembers Kayla and runs over to her. Please tell me you all are having the same reaction I did..."ARE YOU SERIOUS??" That was my reaction. Luckily, we were able to swim with Keira after her lessons, working with her on things and I'm happy to say that she can do a cannonball perfectly, does great big arms, can swim 25m (almost) by herself, go to backfloat from swimming, use a kickboard by herself, do front flips and back flips in the water, and she does some pretty great belly flops (with some good dives in between). Anyway, enough of my gripe/brag session...I'll post pictures tomorrow;)

OK - now YOU need to teach ME how to teach my kids all of that! We've had such a hard time getting our kids unterrified of water. Colby is 7 and couldn't do all of that stuff until just this year, mostly due to swim team. Anyway - I'm impressed! Keep up the great work. And that is CRAZY about her teacher. My kids have been terrified of water, but they did have some really good swim teachers the past couple of years. Crazy story... Geez!!
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!! That "teacher" needs to be fired. Keira is amazing. GOod job on teaching her all of that! I love the pictures, she looks so grown up!
